Bulgarian Cultural Institute in Budapest Seeks to Strengthen Ties with Hungarian Society

The Justice Department charged 28 green card holders in California with voter fraud on Monday, with the feds alleging the suspected fraudsters illegally registered to vote and that “most of them cast illegal and fraudulently obtained ballots.”
Eleven of the suspects have been arrested so far, according to a DOJ statement, while the feds are looking to nab the others. The charges come as President Donald Trump’s administration has been cracking down on suspected voter fraud from coast-to-coast — a push that started a few months back and has appeared to ramp up in the weeks heading into the midterm elections.
“Every illegal vote cancels out the vote of a lawful American citizen,” Acting Deputy Attorney General Trent McCotter said in a statement. “Each of the 28 defendants charged today appears on the list of more than 20,000 likely noncitizen registrants we provided to California election officials last week. California refused to look at that list. Today’s charges show exactly what that refusal puts at risk. California must verify the citizenship of those more than 20,000 registrants before mail-in ballots are counted.”
The arrests were part of what the feds dubbed “Operation Protect the Vote.” It included all four California-based U.S. Attorney’s Offices, according to the DOJ announcement.
Monday’s announcement comes a week after California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) bashed the Trump administration’s “sad” attempt to “use his politicized Justice Department to try to suppress California voters.” Newsom said the push should “scare the hell out of every American.”
The DOJ claimed it sent California officials a list of the 28 green card holders to “ensure that their vote-by-mail ballots were set aside” until their citizenship status was checked, but the officials “declined to assist the federal government.”

That prompted the feds to file a lawsuit “that seeks a court order to prevent the unlawful dilution of American citizens’ votes and to uphold the integrity of our elections,” per the DOJ’s release.
Monday’s arrests also follow DHS Secretary Markwayne Mullin accusing four Democrat-run states of having 250,000 “non-citizens” registered to vote back in July.
Mullin said a DHS review found the quarter million bogus registrations were found in California, New Jersey, Nevada, and Pennsylvania — all states with Democratic governors. The DHS boss called for the states to review their records ASAP, and threatened state election officials with being thrown in the clink if they did not help the federal government crackdown on illegal voters.

A few day later, New Jersey Gov. Mikie Sherrill (D) revealed a “serious software error” led to thousands of non-citizens being registered to vote.
The DHS later acknowledged in August that its 250,000 figure was inflated. CBS News also reported the DHS estimate was based on an “analysis of commercial databases,” which it said were “likely to lead to false positives, significantly overestimating the number of potential noncitizens on voter rolls.”
The 11 defendants already arrested in California are expected to make their first appearances in U.S. District Court later in the day.
