The Government will pay as much attention as possible to ensure that doctors have adequate and modern working conditions and can provide the most advanced forms of treatment in Bulgaria, which are on par with those provided in other countries, Prime Minister Radev said here on Tuesday. He was speaking at the opening of a forum entitled “The Doctors We Trust,” organized by the 24 Chasa daily.
“We expect the healthcare model to continuously align with leading standards. We expect a much more substantial shift from inpatient care toward prevention,” he added.
In his words, this year’s healthcare budget has increased by nearly half a billion euro – for the National Health Insurance Fund, the National Children’s Hospital, salaries for young doctors, and creating conditions for their professional development. “We need your knowledge, talent, and energy, and it is our duty to create conditions that allow you to find professional fulfillment in Bulgaria, and we will do so,” Radev told young medical professionals. “You have another mission – to preserve trust, because in a society where trust is constantly eroding, doctors are an extremely important pillar of trust,” he added.
Radev expressed the hope that there would be no incidents involving Bulgarian doctors being detained by the authorities. “I cannot promise you that we will turn a blind eye. The inspections will become even more comprehensive,” he added.
“The number of disability decisions is growing exponentially, and we have over 800,000 citizens with a disability status,” the prime minister added. “I’m not saying that these people don’t have a valid diagnosis,” Radev added. According to him, oversight will become even stricter, and investments will be made in digitization to eliminate conditions that could lead to potential abuse.
Prime Minister Radev presented awards to obstetrician-gynecologist Prof. Dimitar Markov, obstetrician-gynecologist Dr. Maria Yanakova, Prof. Ivan Kostov, Director of the Maychin Dom Specialized Hospital for Active Treatment in Obstetrics and Gynecology, and Prof. Asen Nikolov, head of the Delivery Room at Maychin Dom.
