Presidential candidate Iliana Iotova said at a campaign rally on Wednesday in Haskovo, ahead of the October 25 election, that trust is “the most important thing, if you want to be involved in politics. But trust is neither inherited, nor demanded, nor commanded.”
“You can earn trust only through the appraisal of Bulgarian citizens. When you are transparent, when you are principled, and when everything you do is out in the open. When you make your decisions openly and explain them,” Iotova explained, adding that she upholds the Constitution and the laws of the country, which is why she has the confidence to seek the people’s trust.
“I know that the months ahead will not be easy. But I also know this: the battles and conflicts between institutions need to stop, everything can be resolved through consensus, conversation, dialogue, and cooperation when we work together to find the best solutions for Bulgaria,” Iotova said.
She emphasized that she wants “a campaign in which we talk about Bulgaria every day, about the work we do, the problems we face in our daily lives and in our homes, the challenges we must overcome, from our incomes to our children’s jobs.”
Iotova also addressed a number of other issues: healthcare, infrastructure, demographics, the two severe military conflicts near Bulgaria and the associated severe socioeconomic consequences, and the need for a change in policy toward Bulgarian communities around the world.
Vice presidential candidate Kiril Valchev also addressed at the meeting. Earlier, the two candidates visited Svilengrad and Dimitrovgrad.
