The Iliana Iotova – Kiril Valchev ticket closed its presidential campaign in the Saedinenie (Unification) Hall at the Regional History Museum in Plovdiv on Thursday.
Iotova said the national ideal of Unification had begun to be realized in this hall. She stressed that Unity Makes Strength was not just an inscription [on the historic Parliament building in Sofia], but an oath to Bulgarian citizens and, above all, to the next generations. “Let’s pass on this message, this oath,” she said, calling for bridges, not walls, and unity, not division.
Iotova said Bulgaria needed daily dialogue in its own language, national consensus and cooperation with competent, genuine people loyal to Bulgaria. She said her campaign had followed this approach, thanking those present for their support.
Iotova said she would not have dared to face thousands of people if the claims made by Continue the Change leader Assen Vassilev and his associates were true. She said she had been denied the chance to defend herself, so all the information they sought had been submitted to the prosecution service.
“I want the truth, because what they did must never happen again. It humiliates Bulgarians and our institutions and erodes public trust,” she said. “The priority is to restore statehood through institutions that people trust and that protect them. I believe in consensus and reason, as consensus is a country’s most valuable asset,” Iotova said.
