GERB Collecting Signatures in Favour of Parliament Chair’s Resignation 2026

GERB has collected 39 of the 80 signatures from MPs required to convene an extraordinary sitting of the National Assembly and to call for the resignation of Parliament Chair Mihaela Dotsova, the party announced on Facebook on Friday. GERB calls on all opposition parliamentary groups to join the two demands and support the initiative with their signatures.
The call for Dotsova’s resignation was prompted by footage of an incident on Thursday showing a National Service for Protection (NSP) officer pushing journalist Sonya Koltuklieva to the ground after she opened the door of Dotsova’s car to ask a question. The NSP ordered an immediate investigation into the incident, and the officer was detained late on Thursday. Dotsova told reporters that when she got into the car, Koltuklieva opened the door, which startled her. The NSP officers got out and closed the door, and the car drove off. Dotsova said she did not know what had happened after that. When she learned how serious the situation was, she was deeply saddened and went to express her deep regret to Koltuklieva in person.
In Friday’s Facebook post, GERB describes Dotsova’s behaviour as unacceptable. “After the rude reaction by her NSP guards, she calmly left the scene of the incident. This behavior is incompatible with the institution she represents. The Chair of the National Assembly cannot claim respect for the institution or represent it after what happened yesterday [Thursday],” the post reads.
