Representatives of Bulgaria’s Central Election Commission (CEC) met on Saturday with members of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation (PABSEC) to discuss the organisation of elections in Bulgaria, the CEC press office said.
The meeting focused on Bulgaria’s electoral system, the legal procedures for electing a president and vice president, and voter turnout.
CEC members briefed the international observers on the organisation of the electoral process and preparations for the presidential and vice-presidential elections scheduled for October 25, 2026.
They outlined the legal requirements for electing a head of state, explained the voting procedures and candidate nomination rules, and described the safeguards intended to ensure that elections are conducted in accordance with the law, the CEC said.
Voter turnout, which remains a challenge for many countries in the Black Sea region, was also discussed. Participants considered possible ways to encourage greater electoral participation, including through public information campaigns.
The CEC outlined measures taken to conduct a large-scale voter information campaign ahead of the elections, aimed at ensuring that citizens are informed about the voting process and encouraged to exercise their right to vote.
According to the CEC, the meeting formed part of its ongoing dialogue with international observers and election experts, aimed at exchanging good practices in democratic processes and election administration.
Participants expressed readiness to maintain contacts and continue cooperation, the CEC press office added.
