NFL legend and Fox Sports analyst Tom Brady was completely fed up with the officiating in Sunday’s game between the Detroit Lions and the Green Bay Packers.
Brady’s disgust began in the opening minutes of the fourth quarter of Sunday’s NFC North matchup. With the Packers trailing 17-14, quarterback Jordan Love tried to throw a pass to running back MarShawn Lloyd. The pass hit Lloyd’s hands and fell incomplete, and Lions linebacker Derrick Barnes flew in to hit Lloyd and make sure he wouldn’t catch it.
Although it wasn’t a particularly hard hit — and he had just a split second after Lloyd made contact with the ball — it was ruled unnecessary roughness, and the Packers were awarded 15 yards and a first down.
“What?” Brady said after the penalty flag was first thrown. “There’s no way.”
When the referee made the call, Brady couldn’t believe it.
“Oh, come on, man!” he said. “Come on! Love throws it over the middle. There’s linebackers in the middle. He’s just turning his right shoulder away from it. That’s allowed 99 out of 100 [times].”

The Packers eventually kicked a field goal to tie the game at 17-17. Later in the fourth, with the game still tied, the Lions had the ball with less than three minutes remaining.
On 2nd & 8 from their own 27-yard line, quarterback Jared Goff found tight end Sam LaPorta for an 18-yard catch to give the team a first down at the 45-yard line. Back by Goff, another flag was thrown against the Packers.
After watching the replay, Brady saw that Packers defensive tackle Karl Brooks hit Goff right as he threw the ball. The refs called roughing the passer, and Brady was beside himself.
“No, my goodness!” Brady said. “What is that? There’s no way! Brooks on the tackle. Kind of makes a great play. It’s a bang-bang play. He rolls off his body. It’s a great throw by Goff. That’s definitely not roughing the passer!”
The penalty added another 15 yards to the 18-yard pass from Goff to LaPorta, setting the Lions up on the Packers’ side of the field. The team was eventually able to run the clock down to the final seconds before hitting the game-winning field goal as time expired.
