Balgarianovinite.com The Children’s Choir of the Bulgarian National Radio (BNR) was honored with the prestigious Sirak Skitnik Grand Award, highlighting BNR not just as a media outlet, but as a true cultural institution of Bulgaria. Presenting the award, President Iliana Iotova praised the choir for its decades-long contribution to Bulgarian and European culture, marking the 65th anniversary of the ensemble.
The ceremony for the BNR awards also marked the 91st anniversary of the public broadcaster’s founding. Established in 2001, the award is presented for contribution to the development of BNR as a public service medium. The prize is named after the artistic pseudonym of Bulgarian writer and artist Panayot Hristov, aka Sirak Skitnik, and is determined by BNR’s Public Council.
Addressing the staff of BNR during the ceremony, Iotova highlighted the human effort behind the station’s success, from journalists to technical teams. “I want to speak to all of you who are in this hall, but also to those at your workplaces. Because beyond the voices, behind the success stand many people – from technical editors, departments, and various specialists – so that crystal-clear sound reaches listeners and truly brings them the pleasure of hearing the Bulgarian National Radio,” she said.
President Iotova emphasized the choir’s role as an ambassador of Bulgarian and European cultural heritage. She also noted the broader significance of BNR, recognizing its professionalism, credibility, and impact on generations of listeners. She praised the dedication of the choir’s conductor Venetsia Karamanova, whose 12-year leadership has elevated the choir’s performance to an internationally acclaimed level, and she congratulated the choir on carrying forward Bulgaria’s cultural legacy with talent and passion.
Venetsia Karamanova said, “The Children’s Radio Choir was founded in 1960, and for decades the Bulgarian song has soared on the voices of these wonderful children across four continents.” She dedicated the award to the choir’s founder, Hristo Nedyalkov.
