The discussion focused on potential updates to the bilateral gas agreement with Turkish energy company BOTAS. Traikov said Turkiye showed understanding and willingness to adjust contract terms, while both sides are also exploring joint projects, including renewable energy “green corridors” through Turkiye and Bulgaria.
Ahead of Bayraktar’s visit to Sofia, Bulgaria will prepare a detailed position outlining opportunities to optimise the agreement. Traikov said that Bulgaria intends to utilize Turkiye’s liquefied natural gas import capacity while maintaining the rational framework of the existing deal.
Traikov added that Bulgaria and Turkiye have historically pursued multiple energy initiatives together.
