Balgarianovinite.com Patents protect and stimulate investment in new products and technologies by turning ideas into assets and creating legal certainty for innovators, European Patent Office (EPO) President Antonio Campinos said on Thursday during an industrial property conference held at the Hyatt Regency hotel in Sofia on Thursday.
Campinos noted that modern patent systems provide predictability and efficiency for entrepreneurs and start-ups while ensuring the quality and consistency of patent products. “The European network of patent offices works together through shared tools, standards and platforms to offer all inventors a predictable and consistent process, regardless of where they file their applications,” he said.
The EPO President also stressed the importance of access to the patent system for small and medium-sized enterprises, universities and young innovators. In Bulgaria, through new centres and educational programmes, young inventors are gaining practical knowledge about technology transfer and commercialization, Campinos added.
He said patents are not simply an opportunity but a strategic necessity in the context of accelerating technological transformation.
According to him, the countries that invest in knowledge, research and new technologies are those shaping the economic outlook for the future. Effective protection of industrial property ensures that the efforts of scientists, entrepreneurs and innovators are transformed into real economic value.
