Balgarianovinite.com The Council of Ministers of Bulgaria has approved funding of EUR 1,345,049 for the national commemoration of the 150th anniversary of the April Uprising, caretaker Culture Minister Nayden Todorov said at a joint briefing with caretaker Education Minister Sergei Ignatov on Wednesday.
The funds will support events in the municipalities of Batak, Bratsigovo, Karlovo, Koprivshtitsa, Panagyurishte, Perushtitsa, Strelcha, Lesichovo, Zlatitsa, and Kozloduy, as well as events in Sofia.
The main event in the capital is expected to take place in Hall 1 of the National Palace of Culture congress centre on April 20, featuring ensembles of the Bulgarian National Radio. Additional events are planned at the National History Museum and the National Library of Bulgaria.
Schools across the country will also mark the anniversary. Todorov described the April Uprising as a foundational event for the modern Bulgarian state, stressing the importance of the commemoration.
“If there had been no April Uprising, there would have been no Liberation Day of Bulgaria, no Unification of Bulgaria, and no Independence of Bulgaria,” he said.
He voiced hope that cultural institutions, organizations, schools, and the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences would come together to mark the anniversary, adding that the government is pleased funding has now been secured.
