Progressive Bulgaria Leader Radev in Burgas: Bulgaria Is Coming Out of Shackles of Fear, Apathy, Has Future 2026

Balgarianovinite.com Progressive Bulgaria leader Rumen Radev met with members of the public here on Thursday. He tops the coalition’s candidate list for the Burgas Multi-member Constituency, which was presented at the meeting.
“Bulgaria is coming out of the shackles of fear and apathy and has a future,” Radev told his audience. He sees the strong public support for Progressive Bulgaria as indicative of recovering from the apathy and regaining hope that this country can develop as a modern European state, with young and educated people being key to this process.
Radev said he decided immediately to run as the leading candidate in Burgas. He highlighted the significance of the city as an economic and cultural hub and recalled his personal link with it.
In his speech, the MP candidate summed up the past years, raising questions about the standard of living, security, prices, and access to services. In his opinion, the lack of a convincing answer to these questions was one of the reasons why he entered politics after leaving the presidency.
Radev served as president between 2017 and 2026 before resigning on January 20. On March 2, the Progressive Bulgaria coalition, which claims Radev as their leader, was registered by the Central Election Commission for the April 19 early parliamentary elections.
He explained that the purpose of forming the Progressive Bulgaria coalition and of establishing a party of the same name is restoring trust in the institutions. Among the key priorities, he singled out curbing the influence of oligarchy, halting abuse of public funds, and extending protection to business.
Radev further stressed the need of a pragmatic approach to international politics, with a focus on Bulgaria’s economic development and competitiveness.
