President Donald Trump sat down with Fox News’ Martha MacCallum for a wide-ranging interview from his state visit to the United Kingdom in which he addressed the Russia-Ukraine war.
Trump repeated his claim that he has settled seven wars around the world, and said he was “very disappointed” in Russian dictator Vladimir Putin for failing to make an agreement to end the conflict.
“I thought that would be the easiest of all of them to get done and it turns out to be the most difficult,” Trump said. “The relationship between President Putin and President [Volodymyr] Zelensky is a horrible one. A lot to do with relationships and they truly dislike each other. I want to use that word rather than a stronger word, but they hate each other. And we will see what happens. I think we will get a solution.”
Trump also said he was “unhappy” with European countries for buying oil from Russia while he’s trying to work a deal.
I let it be known and people were surprised to hear that but they were doing it quietly and slyly and you can’t do that,” Trump said. “If you’re going to win, you have to not buy oil from Russia. But we will see how it turns out. I hope turns out okay. It doesn’t affect us because we have a big ocean in between, but you are losing millions of people and they are mostly Russian soldiers, Ukrainian soldiers.
Last week almost 8,000 soldiers were killed in this ridiculous war. 8,000 people and again, I want to see if I can get it done. It is tougher than I thought but I have done a lot of tough things. It is so interesting. I settled wars that were absolutely no chance — going on for 31 years. One was 34 years. One was 36. Going on for years and years and I got it done. This is one that should be settled.
