Fox Sports NFL announcer Chris Myers briefly acknowledged the absence of colleague Mark Sanchez on Sunday at the start of the Raiders-Colts broadcast, one day after Sanchez was stabbed, hospitalized, and arrested for starting a fight with a food delivery driver in Indianapolis.
Myers said he and the whole Fox family were sending “thoughts and prayers” to Sanchez — who is best known for his years playing quarterback for the New York Jets before becoming a commentator for Fox — as well as “those involved in Friday’s incident.”
“Obviously we all want to send out our thoughts and prayers to Mark and those involved in Friday’s incident, as we get ready for today’s game,” Myers said.
He was flanked by Fox commentator Brady Quinn, who flew into Indianapolis to replace Sanchez on the broadcast. Quinn did not share a comment on Sanchez, and Myers quickly transitioned into previewing the matchup between the two teams.
Their comments came a day after Sanchez was rushed to the hospital in “critical condition” shortly after midnight on Saturday, following his fight with the delivery man.
Max Lewis, a reporter for CBS 4 in Indianapolis, shared details from the police report on X, posting:
“Sanchez allegedly attacked a food delivery man after he told the driver he couldn’t park in the alley and needed to leave. The driver told cops that Sanchez began to follow and threaten him. He said Sanchez then attacked him and he fought back using pepper spray.”
That did not stop Sanchez, the man told police, so he used a knife to defend himself, Lewis added. That driver was taken to a local hospital with a “significant injury to his face,” Lewis reported.
Sanchez was reportedly in stable condition by Saturday afternoon. He was arrested while in the hospital on Saturday, and on Sunday morning he was charged with three misdemeanors — battery resulting in injury, public intoxication, and unlawful entry of a motor vehicle.
Marion County prosecutors charged Sanchez after reportedly seeing surveillance footage of Sanchez drunkenly jogging in a downtown Indianapolis alley before approaching the 69-year-old delivery man’s truck. Sanchez, according to Fox 59 in Indianapolis, allegedly climbed inside the man’s truck, despite being asked to leave, before later brawling near a large dumpster.
