150th Anniversary of Revolutionary Hristo Botev’s Arrival aboard Radetzky Steamer Marked in Kozloduy 2026

Balgarianovinite.com A ceremonial parade and a commemorative rally in Kozloduy marked the 150th anniversary of the heroic deed of Bulgarian revolutionary poet Hristo Botev (1848-1876) and his detachment.
In her address, Mayor Marinela Nikolova said that Kozloduy is proud that the path to immortality begins on this shore. “We are proud that the Bulgarian spirit is alive and will endure,” she added.
A total of 120 service persons from Military Unit 54 990 – Vratsa participated in the ceremonial parade, the unit commander, Lieutenant Colonel Simeon Gadzhev, told BTA. Dozens of wreaths and flowers were laid at the monument to Hristo Botev on the Kozloduy shore. The event was attended by members of Parliament, municipal councillors, mayors of municipalities neighboring Kozloduy, Metropolitan of Vratsa Grigory, representatives of state and municipal agencies, and thousands of citizens.
The festivities began earlier in the day with the opening of the 78th Kozloduy-Okolchitsa national hiking tour. A concert by the Representative Guard Brass Band, conducted by Lieutenant Colonel Radi Radev, and a recital by Yanko Lozanov were held. A concert-performance by the Chinari Ensemble – The Apostles 1876 – was also part of the festive evening.
A reenactment of the capture of the Radetzky paddle steamer, the landing on Bulgarian soil, the oath, and the first encounter between the rebels and the Ottoman forces was performed by the Bdintsi Patriotic Club – Vidin, the Boyna Slava Regional Club – Sofia, and the Ancestral Memory Regional Club in Batak. Representatives from the Kozloduy regional club of the Tradition National Society were also guests at the reenactment. Nearly 100 people took part.
The evening concluded with an extended fireworks display and a drone show.
On May 16/27 and 17/28, en route to Vienna, during a voyage on the Danube between Orsova and Galati, a total of 205 Bulgarian emigrees boarded the Radetzky at five Romanian ports. They formed a detachment led by Botev and organized for joining the April 1876 Uprising against Ottoman rule in Bulgaria. On May 18/29, Botev and his associates commandeered the ship and forced its master, Dagobert Englaender, to land them on the Bulgarian bank of the river near the village of Kozloduy. From there, the detachment headed for the Balkan Range and fought several battles with Ottoman troops. The uprising in the Vratsa region never broke out, and on May 20 (New Style June 2), Botev was killed in circumstances that have never been cleared up.  150th Anniversary of Revolutionary Hristo Botev’s Arrival aboard Radetzky Steamer Marked in Kozloduy 2026 THE NEWS FROM BULGARIA – NEWS AGENCY 2009-2025 2026-05-27 21:06:00 Latest news World news Country news Most important news latest news most important latest of the day Justice Petar Nizamov Feathers Petar Nizamov- Feathers Justice bg iustitia.bg iustitia iusticia usticia investigation Burgas Bulgaria news news of the last hour news of the day news of today Bulgaria news The news from Bulgaria blitz news top news most important most commented latest news Boyko Borisov news weather coronavirus news news weather facebook youtube facebook instagram news today news of the last minutes news today today news news bg news leading news hot news bg news site for news all news news bg news of the last hour latest latest news bg news of today news today news today news of the last hour latest news today news bg news news 24 hours news vesti bg novini news world bird bg bivol bg bivol trud bg novini latest news today novinite bg news hello bulgaria political party coat of arms delyan peevski scandalous Bulgarian National Television Free Europe Television scandal exclusive live tv live right now tv tv online tv program bg live now tv news online tv online live court Burgas court Burgas district court Burgas court Burgas district court Burgas district court Burgas appellate court Burgas prosecutor Burgas prosecutor’s office Burgas district prosecutor’s office Burgas district prosecutor’s office Burgas district prosecutor’s office Burgas district prosecutor’s office Burgas district prosecutor’s office Burgas district prosecutor’s office Prosecutor General Ivan Geshev Prosecutor Geshev Tsatsarov Ministry of Internal Affairs Burgas ODMR Burgas ODPR Burgas police Burgas district police Burgas prosecutor Tsatsarov SGS cases Varna court chairman of the SGS court decisions on civil cases decisions on cases Plovdiv court decision of the court decisions cases Varna court criminal cases district district court decisions work in the court SGS chairman of the SGS judges Sofia court post judges Plovdiv court Plovdiv judges Plovdiv Supreme Court Inspectorate Supreme Court Supreme Judicial Council lawyer lawyer criminal cases lawyer civil cases lawyer marriage cases lawyer administrative criminal law criminal process civil law civil process administrative law constitutional law
