Balgarianovinite.com Bulgaria’s Chief of Defence, Admiral Emil Eftimov, has welcomed his Slovak counterpart, General Daniel Zmeko, who is on an official visit to Bulgaria at Eftimov’s invitation, the Defence Ministry said.
During their bilateral meeting, the two military leaders discussed matters of mutual interest, including strengthening security on NATO’s Eastern Flank and developments in the Middle East.
“Bulgaria and Slovakia are located in strategically important regions where NATO is reinforcing deterrence and defence. Both countries face challenges stemming from Russia’s ongoing war in Ukraine, the conflict in Iran, and potential destabilizing threats,” Admiral Eftimov said, as quoted in his Ministry’s press release.
He underscored the significance of NATO’s Eastern Flank for collective security and highlighted the challenges countries in the region face due to the evolving global security environment. Eftimov also stressed the importance of expanding defence cooperation between Bulgaria and Slovakia, noting that practical collaboration strengthens regional stability and enhances NATO’s collective deterrence and defence capabilities.
The discussions at the Defence Ministry also addressed the modernization of the armed forces. Particular attention was given to sharing the Slovak Air Force’s experience with acquiring and operating the new F-16 Block 70 aircraft, as well as training flight and engineering personnel. The Slovak delegation included the Commander of the Air Force, Brigadier General Adolf Daubner.
During the visit, Eftimov and Zmeko are scheduled to tour the Third Air Base and the Tsrancha Training Centre of the Joint Special Operations Command, where they will be briefed on the units’ development plans, ongoing modernization projects, and current activities.
