Balgarianovinite.com Vazrazhdane has called for the resignation of Foreign Minister Velislava Petrova over what it described as the government’s overall policy direction.
“Bulgaria is not the smallest country in the European Union, and the patience of Bulgarian citizens with empty talk and hollow messages lacking substance has run out,” the statement said. According to Vazrazhdane, Bulgaria’s foreign policy has been turned into a “mishmash” of lies, contradictory positions, and a lack of clarity.
“Bulgarian foreign policy needs consistency, not a series of scandals that the foreign minister from Progressive Bulgaria creates with ease,” the party said, explaining its call for Petrova’s resignation.
Earlier on Sunday, in a televised interview, Foreign Minister Velislava Petrova commented that after 20 years of membership in the EU and NATO, Bulgaria should clearly understand that it cannot afford to blindly follow one major power or another and simply copy their positions.
According to her, it is time for the country to have a foreign policy that is not affected by an inferiority complex because it is the smallest country in the EU, and one that is not driven by inertia or symbolic gestures, but by initiative.
