Balgarianovinite.com Original pieces from his second album will be performed by bassist Vincen Garcia at the International Jazz Festival Dr Emil Iliev in Borovets on Sunday.
Garcia spoke to Bulgarian journalists at a press conference at the Rila Hotel. He will appear with a five-member band comprising guitarist Andoni Narvaez, trumpeter Manu Pardo, drummer Ben Wirjo, saxophonist Victor Jimenez and Garcia on bass.
His second album blends rock, jazz, funk and other styles, while the set will also feature tracks from his debut. The concert will begin at 7:30 pm.
Festival Director Tatyana Ilieva introduced Garcia as a major star and called him and his band outstanding, world-class musicians.
Garcia said music had always been part of life at home because both his parents were musicians. He started playing bass at 16 and later suggested that his students form a band and play together. He performed extensively in Spain before beginning to play elsewhere in Europe.
He said the bass plays a major role in rock, jazz, funk and other styles.
Although self-taught, Garcia said he studied with a music teacher in his home city of Valencia for six months.
“I have always believed that young musicians should listen to different styles of music and play an instrument,” Garcia said.
“My mistakes taught me what I needed to change in the sound of my bass,” Garcia said. He added that it was natural for bass players to focus on particular bassists and want to play like and emulate them.
Garcia called his bandmates highly talented and said he took their musical preferences into account. He thanked the organizers for the invitation and said Sunday’s concert would be unforgettable.
Asked about musicians who copied him and tried to emulate him, Garcia said he had started the same way before finding his own voice. He received many social-media messages showing how people practised and describing their level, which he found encouraging. He was pleased that listeners enjoyed his music and that he had something to offer.
Garcia is on a European tour after spending several months in the United States, where he played 22 concerts. He said he respected American audiences because some of the bassists he followed and admired were American.
Asked whether there were any places where he would not perform, Garcia said he had never considered the question and had always accepted invitations to play.
Fans will be able to buy his albums at the concert.
Garcia is among the world’s most-streamed bassists, attracting hundreds of thousands of followers and millions of views across various platforms. He has 14 years of experience and continues to develop his own sound, the festival team added.
