The former head of the Bulgarian Development Bank (BDB), Stoyan Mavrodiev, who has been put on the wanted list, has rented an apartment in Dubai from Chavdar Alexandrov, also known as Alexandrov or Nessebarski. The apartment used by Stoyan Mavrodiev has an area of just over 102 sq.m. in the building “Lamtara 1”, which is located in the luxury complex Madina Jumeirah Living. The complex is close to the famous Jumeirah Beach and Burj Al Arab Hotel. It is in the shape of a stretched sail of a floating boat (in the lead photo). The rent of Mavrodiev’s apartment is 45,300 euros per year (180,000 AED). This makes 3,775 euros monthly rent for 102 sq.m. in the luxury complex. The lease agreement is a one-year term until August 29, 2024.
In the data from Dubai Unlocked, Stoyan Mavrodiev’s phone number is indicated, but it is answered by another person who does not know him. In August 2024, the Sofia City Prosecutor’s Office (SCC) announced that it was accusing Stoyan Mavrodiev, businessman Rumen Gaitanski – the Wolf, of embezzlement on a particularly large scale
and lawyer Ivan Georgiev. The charge was brought because of non-performing BGN 150 million loan granted by BDB to Gaitanski’s company. BIRD revealed in May 2022 that the Wolf had collected BGN 46 million in his personal account from BDB and bought a yacht for over 1 million euros. At the moment, there is no information whether the Bulgarian authorities are looking for Stoyan Mavrodiev
whether a European Arrest Warrant (EAW) has been issued and whether Interpol’s assistance has been sought. The only announcement is about Reclusive in Bulgaria. The court records do not contain a request from the Public Prosecutor’s Office for the issuance of an EAW.
Head of BDB – resident in Dubai
Stoyan Mavrodiev was elected director of the state-owned BDB in September 2017 .
