Balgarianovinite.com The possibilities for expanding cooperation in the fields of energy, transport connectivity, innovation and new technologies were discussed at a meeting between Foreign Ministers Velislava Petrova of Bulgaria and Juraj Blanar of Slovakia during talks in Sofia on Friday, Petrova’s ministry reported in a press release.
The meeting took place during Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico’s official visit to Bulgaria. Petrova was on the official Bulgarian delegation, led by Prime Minister Rumen Radev, and took part in plenary talks with the Slovak delegation, headed by Fico.
The meeting between Foreign Ministers Petrova and Blanar focused on the development of relations between Bulgaria and Slovakia and opportunities for closer cooperation on issues of common European interest.
The foreign ministers emphasized the potential for political dialogue between Sofia and Bratislava to be developed further through concrete initiatives and partnerships. Among the priorities identified were the exchange of good practices in developing public-private partnerships, investment in new technologies and expanded cooperation in the energy sector.
Petrova stressed the importance of the unity of the European Union and the need for Europe to strengthen its competitiveness and security. The preparations for the EU’s next Multiannual Financial Framework for 2028-2034 were also discussed, with the ministers highlighting the important role of cohesion policy and the common agricultural policy.
Arriving in Sofia earlier in the day, Prime Minister Fico was welcomed by Prime Minister Radev at a ceremony in St Alexander Nevsky Square in downtown Sofia. At a joint briefing of the two government leaders, Fico said that Bulgaria has Slovakia’s full support for membership of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development.
