Presidential candidate and Vazrazhdane leader Kostadin Kostadinov discussed with residents of Targovishte on Thursday issues related to the national interest, the president’s role as a unifying figure, and preventing Bulgaria from being drawn into a military conflict.
Kostadinov said that anyone seeking to govern the country should be prepared to talk to all. He argued that the president should have no party affiliation, represent all citizens and serve as the face of the nation.
The leader of Vazrazhdane also said he expected the upcoming election to produce a different result from the forecasts in published opinion polls. He expressed the view that voters who had been misled in the April elections would make a different choice this time, and added that the results could be far more surprising than those traditionally presented by polling agencies.
He called on voters to support a political force that placed Bulgaria’s national interests and sovereignty above external commitments and agreements.
Kostadinov added that some of the issues of greatest concern to citizens included homemade rakia and the renovation of the Liberty Memorial on Shipka Peak.
He described the ongoing work as a reconstruction rather than restoration. Kostadinov voiced concerns about the quality of the work and the prolonged restriction of access to the monument.
