President Iliana Iotova conferred the John Atanasoff Award ceremony in the Coat of Arms Hall of the Presidency on Thursday. In her address to the honourees, Iotova said that in recent years Bulgaria had become part of the global technological progress and development.
Iotova highlighted the success of the Institute for Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence and Technology (INSAIT) and drone manufacturer EnduroSat.
Since 2003, the head of State has had the great honour of recognizing young Bulgarians who have demonstrated their own achievements and brought recognition to their teachers, parents and country on the international stage, the President said. She added that they were building Bulgaria’s reputation in the new digital world and the high-tech sector.
Iotova said that Bulgarian young people had also won numerous medals at international mathematics and informatics Olympiads in 2026. She cited the achievement of a Bulgarian student who had participated in a prestigious event in the United States. She also pointed out that the International Olympiad in Artificial Intelligence, which originated in Bulgaria, was attracting growing interest and support not only in Europe but around the world.
The President encouraged the young talents to continue developing their skills without losing their connection to Bulgaria. She recalled that John Atanasoff was proud of his Bulgarian roots. Iotova addressed the students’ parents and teachers as well, highlighting their role in nurturing young talent.
On behalf of the Presidency, as well as representatives of Parliament and the Council of Ministers, Iotova said that Bulgaria had confidently embarked on the path of high technology.
