The European Commission closed an infringement procedure against Bulgaria, which was launched over delays in notifying the Commission of measures fully transposing Directive (EU) 2022/2555, known as NIS2. The Innovation and Digital Transformation Ministry was notified on Thursday, the Ministry’s press service said.
The procedure was closed following amendments to Bulgaria’s Cybersecurity Act and the country’s formal notification to the European Commission on March 6, 2026, that the directive had been fully transposed. The Ministry described the closure as an important result of its work and of the work of other national institutions to meet Bulgaria’s EU commitments in the field of cybersecurity.
The legislative amendments broaden the scope of cybersecurity requirements and strengthen measures for risk management and the reporting of cyber incidents.
The aim is to provide better protection for citizens and businesses and to enhance the resilience of essential services in sectors including energy, transport, healthcare, digital infrastructure and public administration.
Earlier Thursday, the European Commission released information on the progress of six infringement procedures against Bulgaria. In two of these cases, the Commission is referring Bulgaria to the Court of Justice of the European Union.
