Bulgaria needs dignified and honest leaders “who do not bend like saplings in the wind,” presidential candidate and Vazrazhdane leader Kostadin Kostadinov said in Vratsa during a meeting with citizens. “Our country is in this state because for 37 years we have been making compromises. It is high time for this to stop. We need people who put the Bulgarian national interest above everything else,” he said.
Kostadinov said that the election campaign should focus on the country’s future rather than so much on its past. “It is time to say what Bulgaria should be like in 20 years. This is the conversation that is missing from our society,” he said. In his view, the president should have more powers, while more direct democracy and more referendums are needed, which, he said, would restore people’s trust in Bulgarian politicians.
“We need a president who can raise the issues of the Bulgarian people, not the problems of other countries. We need someone who can say ‘no’. And say ‘no’ to our so-called partners, who, however, behave like masters. I believe that the Bulgarian president should have two things that the Bulgarian political elite is sorely lacking – character and backbone,” Kostadinov said.
He argued that Vazrazhdane could lead Bulgaria forward and described the party as “the different choice”. According to him, Bulgaria could be different in 20 days, and he called for support for Vazrazhdane.
