The major battle is to reach the runoff, presidential candidate Ivan Hristanov said at a meeting with voters in Yambol, Southeastern Bulgaria.
According to him, actual polling data not released to the public indicate that three opponents are running against presidential candidate Iliana Iotova with very narrow margins separating them. He identified these opponents as Andrey Gurov, himself, and Kostadin Kostadinov.
“If we want a strong candidate to run against Yotova, that person needs to be able to garner support from Continue the Change (CC), Democratic Bulgaria (DB), GERB, and Vazrazhdane,” Hristanov said. He noted, for instance, that neither a candidate backed by CC or DB could expect votes from Vazrazhdane supporters, nor vice versa.
During the meeting held in the Yambol Municipality auditorium, Hristanov pointed out that no Bulgarian president to date has responded to the incremental changes made to the Spatial Development Act. “The end result is that there are no photovoltaic panels on people’s rooftops or on greenhouses. Instead, we boast about photovoltaic parks, yet all of them are controlled by literally five oligarchs,” the presidential candidate observed. Hristanov also commented on the need for effective state control at the border to curb the unregulated import of fruits and vegetables, drug smuggling, and human trafficking. “When your border is like an open yard, you have no state at all,” the candidate stated.
