Try as he might, the Republican running in the governor’s race for reliably red Iowa hasn’t been able to shake questions about where he actually lives — and now Kansas Gov. Laura Kelly (D) has stepped into the political fray with a sweetly savage take.
Kelly, 76, posted a video on X Tuesday calling out Iowa candidate Zach Lahn as a resident of the Sunflower State, even though he’s facing off against Democrat Rob Sand for the governor’s mansion “two states away,” as Kelly put it.
Lahn, 40, a businessman, has repeatedly denied allegations that he actually lives in Kansas.

But Kelly pulled no punches in her video message, which has so far racked up nearly 600,000 views.
Kansas Gov. Laura Kelly Here. It is my great honor to be the governor of the greatest state in the country.
So imagine my surprised when I learned that one of my constituents is running for governor. Not here in his home state of Kansas, but two states over, in Iowa.
Now generally I support Kansans. I was even proud to see Zach Lahn voted here in 18, 20 and 22. I hope he voted for me in the Kansas governor’s race.
But in the Iowa governor’s race? I’m supporting the Iowan.
Zach, there are no hard feelings, but it is time to come back to Kansas.
As they say, there’s no place like home.
Lahn is in an unexpectedly tight race with state auditor Sand, with the two men squaring off Tuesday night for their first debate.
Sand repeatedly raised the issue of where Lahn lives, while Lahn accused Sand of lying while addressing news reports that he’s frequently flown to a second home in Kansas.
“I’m a sixth-generation Iowan. I live in Iowa today. I have lived in Iowa. Rob has been lying about this, and the issue is I have a blended family, and my kids split time,” he said, according to NBC News.

“That corny video is nothing but lies, at the request of an unserious campaign that refuses to talk about the issues.”
