MRF Leader Calls for “Billions for Slush Funds” to Go for Defence, Compensation Measures 2026

The Movement for Rights and Freedoms (MRF) will propose that billions of euro “earmarked for slush funds” be redirected to defence, public security, energy compensation and measures to offset high food prices, MRF leader Delyan Peevski told reporters in Parliament on Wednesday.
“We hear that billions in massive spending are being prepared,” Peevski said. He said the power-holders are waiting for the elections to pass to avoid media and opposition scrutiny and harming their presidential candidate before embarking on large-scale spending through the Road Infrastructure Agency, Regional Development and Public Works Minister Ivan Shishkov and other channels which, he claimed, would benefit oligarchs and a limited group of companies.
Bulgarians will be voting for President on October 25.
“They [the Progressive Bulgaria party] came with a pledge to change things, but what are they changing?” Peevski asked.
He claimed that annexes were being prepared for contracts related to Hemus Motorway at prices three times higher than before, with some prices rising by 300% and those for guardrails by 160%.
“Everything is being done in the dark. That is over, and the MRF will shed light on everything they are trying to take,” Peevski said.
