Retired judge and Newsmax legal analyst Andrew Napolitano threw his support behind Michigan Democratic Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed, while tearing into his Trump-backed Republican opponent, Mike Rogers, as a “Constitution-hating two-bit thug.”
In a clip shared Monday by political commentator Katie Halper, Napolitano offered his take on the Michigan Senate race during an interview for an upcoming episode of The Katie Halper Show.
“If I were in Michigan — no question in my mind — I would vote for El-Sayed,” he declared. “And I would encourage everybody in Michigan to do the same.”
“I mean, Mike Rogers is a war-loving, spy-loving, Constitution-hating, two-bit thug who has no right to be in the government,” the legal analyst continued. “And even though I would probably disagree with El-Sayed’s vote on taxation and property, I would surely agree with him on war and civil liberties.”
While Napolitano works for Newsmax, he has criticized President Donald Trump and his administration on numerous past occasions over the years.
Last week, he agreed “fully” that the Justice Department’s antitrust investigation into major television networks was “another and even more brazen attempt to try to intimidate journalists.”
In May, he warned that the president’s proposed $1.8 billion “slush fund” presented “major constitutional issues.”
And last December, Napolitano argued that Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth should be prosecuted for a war crime over a U.S. military strike that killed survivors aboard an alleged drug-smuggling boat.
“This is an act of a war crime, ordering survivors who the law requires be rescued instead to be murdered. There’s absolutely no legal basis for it,” the retired judge said, adding that everyone involved, from Hegseth to the military personnel who carried out the strike, should face prosecution.
As for the race between El-Sayed and Rogers, recent polling compiled by The New York Times shows the Democrat leading the Republican in nine of the 10 most recent surveys, though several show the candidates separated by just one or two percentage points.
