Bulgaria hosted a meeting of the Board of Directors of NATO’s Defence Innovation Accelerator for the North Atlantic (DIANA) for the first time since the programme was established in 2022.
Opening the meeting at Sofia Tech Park, Innovation and Digital Transformation Minister Ivan Vasilev highlighted the expansion of Bulgaria’s innovation ecosystem and growing interest among Bulgarian companies in the DIANA accelerator programme, the Innovation Ministry’s press service said.
Vasilev said an increasing number of start-ups and technology companies were seeking to join the programme, which aims to foster innovation in the fields of security and defence.
He also noted that Sofia Tech Park is one of the newest accelerator sites to join the DIANA network.
According to the Minister, start-ups from across the Alliance will have access to the science and technology park, where they can receive training and develop cutting-edge dual-use technologies.
Vasilev also highlighted Bulgaria’s four test centres participating in the programme, which specialise in a broad range of fields, from big data and artificial intelligence to emerging technologies, autonomous systems, microelectronics, cybersecurity and quantum technologies.
The Minister concluded by stressing the importance of further developing the programme in close cooperation with all NATO allies.
During their visit, delegates toured INSAIT and EnduroSat, a Bulgarian aerospace technology company.
Sofia Tech Park was selected to join the DIANA network as an accelerator site in May. In March, an agreement on scientific and technological cooperation and innovation in security and defence was signed by Sofia Tech Park, the Defence Institute, the GATE Institute, the Nikola Vaptsarov Naval Academy and the Research and Development and Innovation Consortium.
