Bulgaria’s cooperation with other countries in the region and the improvement of infrastructure connectivity among them are crucial for Bulgaria’s development and security. Energy Minister Iva Petrova, Bulgartransgaz CEO Kiril Ravnachki and Deputy Economy, Investment, and Industry Minister Krasimir Yakimov, emphasized at the 2026 Global Innovation Summit in Sofia, organized by Glavbolgarstroy Holding, the press service of the Energy Ministry said on Tuesday.
Bulgaria is actively participating in regional energy initiatives of pan-European significance, Petrova stated at the forum.
She said that Bulgaria is strengthening its position in the European energy system through active participation in regional initiatives of pan-European significance. Among these, she highlighted the Vertical Gas Corridor, the East-West energy corridor and the North-South Balkan electricity corridor, as well as the development of green energy routes from the Caspian region to Europe. According to her, these efforts expand opportunities for connectivity, diversification, and cooperation between markets and lay the groundwork for a more sustainable economic environment, the Energy Ministry reported.
The 2026 Global Innovation Summit gathers government, industry, and academic leaders, under the theme “Powering Competitiveness: Energy, Infrastructure and Digital Innovation for Economic Transformation”. Co-hosted by the Global Federation of Competitiveness Councils and Glavbolgarstroy, the Summit brings together policymakers, business leaders, and innovation experts to examine the forces reshaping global competitiveness – from energy security and resilient infrastructure to artificial intelligence and the future of work.
The forum features panel discussions spanning six core themes: Competitiveness, Energy, Infrastructure, Digital Technologies, Europe, and Innovation. The sessions explore how nations can strengthen energy independence and modernize power grids, unlock the economic potential of infrastructure investment, accelerate responsible AI adoption, and translate national competitiveness strategies into measurable impact, the organizers said.
