Urban Wine Fest 2026 Showcases Bulgarian Wines in Plovdiv Oct. 23-24

The latest edition of Urban Wine Fest 2026 takes place in Plovdiv on Friday and Saturday. The Bulgarian Association of Wine Professionals (BAWP), which organizes the event, marks International Mavrud Day on October 26 and promotes Bulgarian wines through a series of city festivals, meetings with wine experts, and events dedicated to local grape varieties and Bulgaria’s wine regions.
At Plovdiv’s Central Square, visitors have the opportunity to taste over 50 wines from 15 Bulgarian grape varieties, meet representatives from the country’s wine regions, and enjoy a programme of music and culinary events.
The festival showcases the diversity of Bulgaria’s local grape varieties through a selection of white, rosé, red, sparkling, and natural wines. Among them are Mavrud, Gergana, Rubin, Pamid, Shiroka Melnishka Loza, Melnik 55, Dimyat, Tamyanka, Gumza, and various varieties of Muscat wine, as well as other varieties characteristic of the country.
A special highlight of the programme are two wine regions that are fostering cooperation among local producers and promoting wine tourism – Plovdiv Wine Routes from the Plovdiv area and Wines of Sakar from Southern Sakar. They are scheduled to present their selection of wines and opportunities for wine experiences in the two regions.
Also on the festival’s programme are three master classes for those interested in deepening their knowledge about Bulgarian wine: special wines from Plovdiv (on Friday); wines from Sakar (on Saturday); and the Mavrud variety (on Saturday).
Admission is free. Tastings and purchases are paid for on-site. Visitors may bring their own tasting glass or use one provided by the organizers for a deposit. The event is intended for individuals 18 years of age and older, and the organizers urge moderate and responsible consumption.
October 26 marks International Mavrud Day, an initiative that highlights Bulgaria’s local grape varieties and their role in shaping the country’s identity as a wine destination. Mavrud, one of the iconic grape varieties of Plovdiv Region, lends its name to the festival, which highlights the richness and diversity of Bulgarian wine.
International Mavrud Day is held under the auspices of the Tourism Minister, with the official support of the Tourism Ministry, the Ministry of Agriculture and Food, and the Municipality of Plovdiv. The event is part of Plovdiv’s calendar of events and is funded under the Plovdiv Municipality’s 2026 Tourism Development Programme.
