Former Trump spokesman Anthony Scaramucci declared Saturday that Ohio gubernatorial candidate Vivek Ramaswamy (R) has “finished himself” by running a controversial ad featuring his opponent’s estranged mother.
The widely-panned ad features Dr. Amy Acton’s (D) mother calling her a “liar” about her past, which included sexual abuse at the hands of her stepfather. Acton was removed from her mother’s custody at the age of 12, and her stepfather was indicted for rape, but fled the state and died before he could stand trial.
“This was a low blow, it was guttural, and I think it will hurt Ramaswamy,” Scaramucci said on a video posted to X.
He continued:
And I’m going to tell you something that’s very Orwellian.
Because Ramaswamy started in 2024 with some soaring rhetoric: “I’m a technology entrepreneur, and I’m post-partisan, and I’m a data-dependent young man who can help bring good government and good government efficiency, and good government and services to the American people.”
That was the campaign message. But I say it’s Orwellian, because, like the pigs at the end of Animal Farm — they hated the two-legged farmers, the two-legged animals — but by the end of the novella, they’re living in the house, and they’re up on their hind legs, and they’ve got their little vests on with their pocket watches.
They’ve become what they abhor. So, what Ramaswamy has done, and a lot of politicians do in order to win, they break first principles.
In order to win, they break whatever their righteous philosophies are, and they get into a scum position. And I think he did that to himself. And I think he’ll lose the election, and I think he’s finished himself as a potential candidate in future elections.
The only Republicans defending Ramaswamy out loud for running the ad have been President Donald Trump and Vice President JD Vance. Others, like Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine (R), have called on Ramaswamy to remove the ad from the airwaves, saying, “The ad, on its face, is deeply, deeply troubling.”
