Balgarianovinite.com Three out of four adult Bulgarians approve of the idea to ban the use of social media such as TikTok, Facebook and Instagram by children under 15 years of age, the Myara polling agency found in a flash survey published on its website on November 20, which was World Children’s Day.
The possibility of such a ban is viewed positively by 74.8% of respondents in the poll. Another 22.1% disapprove of it, and the remaining 3.1% hesitate or say nothing.
Analyst Parvan Simeonov commented: “We can only hypothesize. A flash survey shows public instincts rather than public opinion.”
Simeonov presented the findings during a national roundtable hosted by the Ministry of Education and Science. The participants discussed whether it is necessary to restrict kids’ access to social media.
Simeonov said: “The data shows that people give the idea a fair wind. The results can be placed in the broader context of other polls we have conducted – not a very liberal context, sometimes restrictive, or even somewhat repressive. Such data always implies irrational skepticism. Parents’ opinions are a little more nuanced.”
The analyst went on to note: “Basically, I am very cautious about any kind of prohibition, particularly if it is about the way the Earth turns. It would be hard to make the Earth turn backwards. At the same time, I am aware of the challenge of ensuring both freedom and security. Therefore, I welcome this idea, and the public would apparently welcome it too.”
Myara’s independent flash survey was carried out by telephone between November 12 and 17, 2025, among 807 adult Bulgarian citizens. For a share of 50%, the margin of error is 3.5%. One per cent of the sample stands approximately for 54,000 people.
