Minister of Agriculture and Food Plamen Abrovsky will attend a meeting of the EU Agriculture and Fisheries Council in Brussels on Monday and Tuesday, the Agriculture Ministry said.
During the meeting, EU agriculture ministers will discuss the conditions for providing EU support under the Common Agricultural Policy after 2027, as well as the situation on agricultural markets, particularly in the aftermath of the war in Ukraine.
On the second day, the ministers will discuss fisheries-related issues, including a proposal for conditions regulation of EU support for the Common Fisheries Policy, the European Ocean Pact, and the EU’s maritime and aquaculture policies for 2028-2034.
At a meeting of the parliamentary Committee on Agriculture, Food and Forestry last week, Abrovsky said that at the upcoming Council meeting, Bulgaria, together with Cyprus, Greece, Romania and Croatia, would call on the European Commission to conduct a comprehensive review of its legislation because it is severely outdated. The legislation does not provide for compensation for farmers who are forced to keep their animals within the quarantine zones around outbreaks, the Minister said, referring to sheep and goat pox.
