Balgarianovinite.com Alexander Poulev’s first visit as Minister of Economy, Investment, and Industry was to the Institute for Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence and Technologies (INSAIT) at Sofia University in Sofia Tech Park on Monday. There, he discussed with the institute’s leadership topics related to digital transformation, the implementation of artificial intelligence, and the role of innovation in strengthening the competitiveness of the Bulgarian economy, according to a press release from Poulev’s Ministry.
During his meeting with Prof. Martin Vechev, founder and scientific director of INSAIT, and Eng. Borislav Petrov, the institute’s executive director, Poulev said that the Ministry of Innovation and Digital Transformation will serve as the main point of contact for all issues related to digitalization and the implementation of artificial intelligence across public life.
The Minister noted that efforts will not be limited to the digitalization of administrative processes, but will also focus on creating strong incentives for business, with the aim of increasing productivity and promoting the use of artificial intelligence as an opportunity for development rather than a threat.
He added that the strategic goal is for Bulgarian companies to become more competitive not only on the domestic market but also to grow into regional and global leaders in their sectors. Poulev added that a number of initiatives and ideas aimed at accelerating innovation will be developed and presented.
“We view INSAIT as a key strategic partner in realizing this vision,” he said, highlighting the importance of cooperation between government, the scientific community and the business sector.
During the visit, participants also discussed the need for more effective communication with the entrepreneurial community in Bulgaria, in order to better understand the level of engagement and professionalism in the field of artificial intelligence and innovation, as well as the real opportunities for development.
Poulev further stressed the importance of engaging key stakeholders and strengthening the international presence of Bulgarian innovation organizations. The visit reaffirms the government’s commitment to accelerating digital transformation and developing the country’s innovation ecosystem, he noted.
