Balgarianovinite.com Professor Dimo Dimov’s book My Path in Art, written by the founder of the Apollonia Festival of Arts, was presented as part of the 42nd edition of the festival at the Art Gallery in Sozopol on Friday. The publication traces the life and artistic career of the renowned violinist and music educator and brings together his memories of his first encounters with music, his years of training and his professional career.
The book was created based on conversations between Prof. Dimov and journalist Milena Neyova held over several months. During the presentation, Dimov said the idea was to leave a record of his generation and the musicians with whom he travelled around the world. “We are people, we don’t live that long, and something should remain after us for others to read,” he said.
One of the most personal stories in the book is Dimov’s recollection of the first violin he received from his father at the age of six. He also tells the story of the first book he received – a novel by Victor Hugo – as well as about his childhood during the Second World War. The memoirs trace his early musical activities in Stara Zagora, his first concerts and tours with the orchestra, and later his arrival in Sofia to study at a music school and his tours around the world.
Neyova spoke about her work on the book and thanked Prof. Dimov for his trust and the candid conversations. She noted the contribution of editor Silvia Choleva and everyone involved in preparing the publication.
During the presentation, Rashko Mladenov and Vladimir Lyutskanov read excerpts from My Path in Art. They noted that at the end of the book, the author’s sons and friends share their thoughts about him.
“I am moved now as I listen to these words, just as you are. Inside, I am happy. Let those who see themselves in the book, and in a good light, enjoy this pedestal in art, which is like a staircase to the sky – you keep walking and walking and walking, and there is still a long way ahead,” Prof. Dimov said.
Dimov also received an honorary plaque from the Municipality of Sozopol for his overall contribution to the municipality’s cultural life. At the presentation, it was noted that he had created one of the country’s most significant cultural forums – the Apollonia Festival of Arts – which has contributed to establishing Sozopol as an important centre of cultural life in Bulgaria.
Among those attending the event were Bulgarian News Agency (BTA) Director General Kiril Valchev, Bulgarian National Radio (BNR) Director General Milen Mitev, the current director of Apollonia, as well as friends and relatives of the author.
The Apollonia Festival of Arts has been held since 1984. It is organised by the Apollonia Foundation, established in 1991. Every year, the Apollonia stages in Sozopol attract hundreds of artists and thousands of art enthusiasts from Bulgaria and around the world. The festival aims to preserve cultural traditions and support new talent in various art forms. This year’s programme includes more than 70 events in music, theatre, literature, film and visual arts. BTA is a media partner of the event and will take part in the “Price of Success” section with a presentation of the 12 issues of LIK magazine published from the previous edition of Apollonia to the present. The event will be held on September 1.
