Balgarianovinite.com Bansko is not just a city of jazz, opera or, now, rock. Bansko is a city of music, Mayor Stoycho Banenski told BTA ahead of the closing night of the five-day Bansko Rock Fest, which ends with concerts by Bulgarian bands Jeremy? and D2 on Sunday.
“This is not a promotional slogan, but the result of a consistent policy to develop various music genres and create high-quality events,” Banenski said. In recent years, established festivals have been joined by new formats, including the rock festival and the International Festival Academy, creating a cultural calendar that attracts different audiences and gives people of all ages the chance to discover their music in Bansko, he added.
“Our aim is not for festivals to compete with each other, but to complement one another. It is precisely this diversity that turns Bansko into a place where music is part of the city’s life throughout the summer, and this is one of the strongest reasons why people come back,” Banenski said.
He said rock had become a natural part of the city, complementing its atmosphere. “Our goal over the years has been to build on this and enrich the musical styles, so that every tourist who comes to Bansko can find their music, something to visit and something they enjoy. The success of a festival is measured by whether it makes people want to come back for a second time,” Banenski said.
Already in its second edition, Bansko Rock Fest has grown into a five-day experience which, according to the mayor, makes it one of the larger events in the resort town’s summer cultural programme.
So far, the festival stage has featured Hayes & Y, Stenli, PIF, Greesh, Caliberty, Casual Threesome, Johnny Rumble & The Law 4000 and Blinded Through the Seasons. Event organizer Nikolay Lozanov said the first edition had generated strong interest and this year’s programme offered a wide variety of rock bands and styles. With the festival’s closing night, organizers are already looking ahead to the next edition and ways to further develop it.
“We are very happy so far. We tried to make the festival venue even more enjoyable for visitors by adding several bar areas and offering quality food options,” Lozanov said. Next year, the organizers plan to create a dedicated area for children, as they have noticed that many families attend the concerts. “We want to create a wonderful atmosphere that will captivate people and make them feel special,” he added.
Bansko Rock Fest is organized with the support of Bansko Municipality. Admission is free.
On July 31, Bansko Jazz Festival will open in the town’s central square and will run until August 9.
