Balgarianovinite.com Bulgarian Olympic Committee President-elect and Vice President of the European Shooting Confederation (ESC), Vesela Lecheva, held working meetings on Tuesday with the President of the Turkish Olympic Committee, as well as with the Organizing Committee of the European Games, Lecheva’s press office reported. The European Summer Games, organized by the European Olympic Committees, will be held in 2027 in Istanbul, and Lecheva is the coordinator and head of the working group of the European Shooting Confederation.
The delegation in Turkiye also included ESC President Alexander Ratner, ESC Secretary General Yahor Aleinik and ESC Sports Director Elena Allen. They met with the newly elected President of the Turkish Olympic Committee Prof. Veli Ozan Cakir, and with the Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports Hamza Yerlikaya.
“The hosts introduced us to the project a few months ago, the place where the shooting competitions will be held, as well as the other facilities. Today we had the opportunity to see them in person and outline the next steps. Regarding shooting, they guarantee that the complex will be completed in April 2027, will pass test competitions and will be fully ready for the European Games. As for the other facilities, as well as the places where the athletes will be accommodated, there is great progress. We continue to coordinate our actions and monitor the preparations. As the chair of the Bulgarian Olympic Committee, I said that it is a huge advantage for us that the Games are in a neighbouring and well-known country that has hosted a number of competitions and tournaments,” said Lecheva.
The 2027 European Games will be the fourth edition of the largest multi-sport event in Europe and will take place from June 16 to 27, 2027. They are also an important stage in the qualifications for the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.
During the BOC Elective General Assembly on March 19, 2025, a new leadership, headed by Vesela Lecheva, was elected but has not yet been registered in the Commercial Register due to ongoing court appeals. On May 17, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) announced that it had provisionally recognized the results of the Elective General Assembly, confirming that Lecheva and her team are the only individuals authorized to represent the BOC to the IOC, within the Olympic Movement, and at all IOC-recognized events and Games.
