Balgarianovinite.com Bulgarian News Agency (BTA) Director General Kiril Valchev presented the Turkish-language edition of BTA’s BG SPA – Health through Water catalogue at BTA’s National Press Club in Ankara on Monday. Speakers at the event said the publication promotes Bulgaria’s health tourism potential, mineral waters, SPA infrastructure and appeal to visitors from Turkiye.
Valchev said the Turkish edition is the first Turkish-language publication in BTA’s 128-year history. The catalogue, also available in Bulgarian, English and Romanian, features 128 certified SPA, wellness and medical SPA centres in Bulgaria, out of more than 200 nationwide. “Bulgaria offers SPA holidays that are safe, peaceful, affordable and close by,” Valchev said.
Deputy Tourism Minister Mariela Modeva said the catalogue highlights Bulgaria’s strong potential to attract tourists from the Republic of Turkiye. “Thanks to the excellent cooperation between BTA, BUBSPA, the Embassy of Bulgaria in Turkiye and the Tourism Ministry, we have a unique publication that shows Bulgaria’s huge potential to welcome tourists from the Republic of Turkiye,” Modeva said. She added that Turkish tourists are showing steadily growing interest in Bulgaria, with more than 95,000 Turkish tourists registered at accommodation establishments in early 2026 and more than 295,000 in 2025, up 61% year on year.
Bulgarian Ambassador to Turkiye Angel Cholakov said Bulgarian-Turkish friendship and partnership combine strong emotional ties with a clear vision for future cooperation. “These may seem like very different events, but they are all aspects of the same thing, the strong emotion, but also the concrete vision and substance of Bulgarian-Turkish friendship and partnership,” Cholakov said, referring to recent developments in bilateral relations.
Bulgarian Union of Balneology and SPA Tourism (BUBSPA) representative Georgi Bogdanov said Bulgaria is working to establish itself as a year-round destination for health, wellness, rehabilitation and prevention. “BUBSPA is committed to positioning Bulgaria among Europe’s leading health tourism destinations by drawing on the country’s exceptional mineral waters, favourable climate, medical expertise, modern SPA infrastructure and strong international partnerships,” Bogdanov said.
Bulgarian National Radio’s Radio Bulgaria Editor-in-Chief Krasimir Martinov said the catalogue is a substantial, polished publication and praised BTA’s work on it. “This is an extremely substantial piece of work, with information presented in a very polished style. Congratulations, Mr Valchev,” Martinov said. He described BTA as a long-standing and natural partner of BNR and said Radio Bulgaria would continue promoting Bulgarian tourism in 11 languages, including Turkish.
The catalogue was produced in institutional partnership with the Tourism Ministry and with organizational support from BUBSPA. It was first released in connection with HEALTHXCHANGE 2026, a European forum on the future of sustainable health tourism, held in May in Varna and the Black Sea resorts of Sts Constantine and Helena, Golden Sands and Albena.
