Budget Allocation for Agriculture Will Be Sufficient, Agriculture Minister Says 2026

Balgarianovinite.com Funds for agriculture in the 2026 budget will be sufficient, and the resources for an aid scheme, intended to compensate up to 70% of the difference in prices of fertilizers and fuels, have been secured, Agriculture Minister Plamen Abrovski told journalists on Friday on the sidelines of a Sofia-hosted international conference on EU’s honey market, organized by independent MEP Elena Yoncheva.
“There is money in the budget. I will not tell you the exact figure, but it is more than sufficient,” the minister said. According to him, two options are considered for supporting producers in the sector, based either on actual incurred costs or on technological cost models. He said he preferred aid to be provided according to real expenses in order to avoid distortions between different sectors.
The minister also announced that Bulgaria is already preparing analyses in order to request from the European Commission the activation of the crisis reserve to support agricultural producers.
Regarding reports of unauthorized additives in butter, the minister said he had ordered an inspection of companies that imported the relevant quantities in January 2025. He explained that ongoing border control is currently implemented, with every shipment of butter entering Bulgaria, both from EU member states and third countries, being checked, and that this practice has been in place since July 10.
Abrovski also announced that increased control in the dairy sector is already producing results. According to him, by June 23, dairy processing plants had received nearly 26,000 tonnes of Bulgarian raw milk, compared with about 1,400 tonnes of raw materials from other countries. He said that for the first time the ministry has real-time information about the quantities and origin of raw materials, which will allow tracking of the entire production process.
The minister added that once order is established in the dairy sector, a similar approach will be applied to the control of meat processing enterprises. According to him, the goal is to ensure full traceability of raw materials and finished products.
Of inspections related to missing animals that were eligible for livestock subsidies in the Sliven region, the minister said they are ongoing, and so far, inspections of cattle have found an average of around 10% discrepancies. He said that inspections will continue in other regions of the country as well.
