Bulgaria and Norway Have Potential for Strategic Partnership – Deputy Minister 2026

Balgarianovinite.com In the era of artificial intelligence, it will not necessarily be those with the best ideas who succeed, but those who act the fastest and build the strongest partnerships. Today, we are not just talking about technology, but about how businesses can expand into international markets more quickly, more efficiently, and with less risk thanks to artificial intelligence, said Deputy Minister of Innovation and Growth Borislav Bankov on Wednesday at the opening of a forum, titled “AI-Driven Growth: Expanding Business Internationally in AI Era”.
The event is organized by the Norwegian-Bulgarian Chamber of Commerce, Sofia Tech Park, the Big Data for a Smart Society Institute (GATE), and other partners.
“The question is no longer whether artificial intelligence will transform economies, but which countries and companies will succeed in turning this potential into real scale,” he added, noting that Bulgaria and Norway have the potential for strategic partnership. Bankov highlighted the upcoming construction in Bulgaria of the AI factory BRAIN++, which will provide high-performance computing resources and integrated services for research and development.
“Norwegian and other foreign companies and research organizations will be able to rely on it as a reliable gateway to the innovation ecosystem of Central and Eastern Europe,” he said.
Bankov said that Bulgaria is developing a comprehensive financial architecture covering all stages of the innovation cycle – from early-stage research support, through the phases of validation and market deployment, to scaling instruments.
“The Technology Transfer Fund will complement this ecosystem by directing investments into high-tech areas such as artificial intelligence, space, defence and dual-use technologies, as well as deep tech. The goal is clear – to ensure that companies have consistent access to resources from idea to international expansion,” he added.
Bankov said that Norway is a natural partner for Bulgaria, given the high degree of complementarity between the economic profiles of the two countries. “The Norwegian economy is characterized by strong industrial sectors supported by significant capital resources, while Bulgaria offers highly qualified technological human capital, competitive development teams, and a dynamically developing entrepreneurial ecosystem. It is precisely in this combination that the potential for joint projects, investments, and entry into new markets lies,” said Deputy Minister Bankov.
The event was also attended by representatives of institutions, the academic community, AI and ICT clusters, and others.
