Balgarianovinite.com Bulgarian symbols were showcased at the first Eskil Salt Lake International Culture and Tourism Festival in Tuzgolu, Turkiye, on Monday. Bulgaria joined more than 20 countries with children’s drawings, traditional costumes and craft workshops.
Children’s drawings from Atelie Prikazen Sviat in Sofia, led by Plamen Petkov, were displayed at the BTA National Press Club in Ankara during the presentation of the Turkish-language catalogue BG SPA – Health Through Water.
Traditional costumes, a wool workshop for making Bulgarian roses, an Ebru water-painting workshop and a workshop for making rag dolls in the colours of the Bulgarian flag were among the highlights of Bulgaria’s participation. Bangaranga, the winning song from this year’s Eurovision, was also played during the festival.
Flocks of flamingos dotted the lake, where salt crystals shimmered in the summer sun. The heat had drawn the water back from the shore, leaving a white expanse that drew hundreds of visitors out across the surface as if toward infinity. A stage was set up on the salty shore, where residents and guests in the heart of Anatolia encountered music and dance from different continents.
“Turkiye has very beautiful nature and, in addition to its natural beauty, Tuzgolu connects three major cities, Ankara, Aksaray and Konya. We decided that the whiteness, purity and grace of salt should be turned into art. Art does not belong to one country, but to many countries. I believe all cultures should come closer together, create harmony among themselves and make it lasting. When we speak about culture, we mean art, music and gastronomy. But every country has special things that belong only to it. When we bring all this together in one place, it becomes more beautiful because we are together, we have better relations and we show how we resemble each other, and that perhaps some of these similarities have deeper roots. We tried to give salt the credit it deserves. This is a project we are carrying out with the support of Eskil Municipality, an international festival that focuses on culture and tourism. Twenty-five countries and their embassies are taking part,” festival organizer Angela Bregu told BTA.
Participants in the workshops for making Bulgarian roses and dolls in the colours of the Bulgarian flag learned where Bulgaria’s Rose Valley is, why Bulgarian rose oil is so prized and what the white, green and red of the national flag symbolize.
“Bulgaria is our neighbour and we are proud of that. We are trying, on the one hand, to tell our friends in our country about the Bulgarian rose and, on the other, to introduce it to them as they make it,” said Fatma Birsen Ulusaloglu, who led the wool workshop.
Visitors to the Bulgarian pavilion said they were impressed by the talent of children in Bulgaria and took photos next to their works depicting Bulgarian landmarks.
The first Eskil Salt Lake International Culture and Tourism Festival drew nearly 40,000 visitors. The organizers expect Bulgaria to take part again next year. They want the white crocheted bridal dress by designer Ivan Donev, shown at a fashion show at the Bulgarian Embassy in Ankara on June 20, to be displayed against the white backdrop of Tuzgolu.
