Balgarianovinite.com Bulgaria’s Defence Minister Dimitar Stoyanov will participate in Thursday’s meeting of NATO Defence Ministers in Brussels, the Defence Ministry said.
During the forum, participants will discuss the implementation of the most important decisions related to NATO’s defence and deterrence capabilities, including in the context of preparations for the NATO Summit in Ankara.
As part of the working sessions, the defence ministers will also discuss key items on the Alliance’s current agenda, including the fulfilment of commitments to increase defence spending and expand the capacity of the defence industry.
Earlier in June, Stoyanov said a plan had been prepared to increase defence spending to 5% of GDP by 2030, with 3.5% allocated for direct military expenditures and 1.5% for defence-related infrastructure and cybersecurity, among others. He said that in 2025 defence spending was 2.13% of GDP, while this year he hoped it would be 2.15%.
