Balgarianovinite.com Caretaker Innovation and Growth Minister Irena Mladenova has awarded a priority investment project certificate to Liebherr-Transportation Systems Marica EOOD for the construction of a new production facility in Bulgaria, the Ministry said in a press release on Tuesday.
The certificate, issued under the Investment Promotion Act, covers an investment of nearly EUR 90 million. The project is expected to create around 200 jobs initially, with the potential to expand to 600.
The new plant will be located in the village of Benkovski near Plovdiv, within the Trakia Economic Zone. It will focus on the production, testing, and development of products for the aviation industry, including high-tech components not previously manufactured by the company in Bulgaria.
The need for the investment is driven by increasing orders from major clients such as Airbus and Embraer.
Mladenova emphasized that attracting investments in high-tech sectors is a key priority for the caretaker government.
At the ceremony, the certificate was received by Dieter Pflanzer, Director Operations at Liebherr-Transportation Systems GmbH & Co KG, and Hristo Georgiev, Head of the Bulgarian subsidiary. The two stressed that the investment further strengthens Bulgaria’s role as a strategic partner for the company.
“With this investment, Bulgaria will for the first time become part of Liebherr’s aerospace industry,” Pflanzer said, adding that the company also plans to establish a research and development centre to attract engineers.
The event was attended by Deputy Minister Mira Yosifova, Sonja Miekley of the German-Bulgarian Chamber of Industry and Commerce, representatives of the Austrian Embassy, officials from the Invest Bulgaria Agency, among others.
