Bulgaria’s national football team suffered a comeback defeat to Luxembourg in their opening match of the 2026 UEFA Nations League campaign. In their first Group 4 match in League C, the Bulgarians lost 2-1 to the Red Lions at Hristo Botev Stadium in Plovdiv.
Although Alexander Dimitrov’s side took the lead in the 18th minute through Asen Chandarov, Bulgaria were unable to hold on to their advantage. Benfica midfielder Leandro Barreiro and Vincent Thill scored for Luxembourg to secure the visitors’ victory, which was also their first-ever win over Bulgaria.
Following the opening matches in Group C4, Luxembourg moved to the top of the standings with three points. Iceland and Estonia share second place on one point each after drawing 1-1 in the other group match, while Bulgaria remain without a point.
