Bulgarian Foreign Minister Velislava Petrova met on Monday with Hungarian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Anita Orban, who is on an official visit to Bulgaria, to discuss strengthening political dialogue, expanding economic and investment cooperation, and coordination on key EU issues. The talks also focused on transport, energy and digital connectivity, recent developments in the Black Sea, external border security, countering hybrid threats, and EU enlargement. The meeting coincided with the 10th anniversary of designating October 19 as Bulgarian-Hungarian Friendship Day.
Petrova said: “At a time when Europe faces conflicts, a more complex security environment and economic challenges, it is important that we work together to achieve our common policies and goals.”
During the visit, the two ministers opened an exhibition organized by the Lajos Kossuth House Museum in Shumen.
Orban stressed that, amid the current challenges, historical ties and the strategic partnership between Bulgaria and Hungary provide a solid base for joint efforts to promote peace, cooperation and security in Europe and worldwide. She highlighted the friendship and mutual trust between the two peoples.
Petrova and Orban laid wreaths at the commemorative plaque dedicated to St John of Rila at the Basilica of St Sophia. Bulgarian-Hungarian Friendship Day is marked on October 19, the saint’s feast day.
