Balgarianovinite.com The Bulgarian Food Safety Agency (BFSA) seized nearly five tonnes of food during inspections in Sofia; Plovdiv, South Central Bulgaria; and Burgas, on the Black Sea, the agency reported on Saturday. During the inspections that took place on Friday, violations were identified related to expired shelf life, incorrect labelling, lack of traceability documents, and non-compliance in storage and production processes.
During a warehouse inspection in Sofia, 331 kg of food that included imitation products, cow’s milk cheese, and yellow cheese were seized due to incorrect labelling and a lack of traceability documents. An order was issued to seize the products. A report establishing an administrative violation is to be drawn up against the business operator.
Also in Sofia, during an inspection of a wholesale warehouse, 4,630 kg of food products of animal and non-animal origin with expired shelf lives were discovered. An order was issued to seize the products and direct them for destruction, and a notice of an administrative violation is to be served.
In Plovdiv, a butter packaging facility was inspected, and a directive was issued to ensure that records are kept for the intermediate tracking of batches. Butter samples were taken for laboratory testing.
In Burgas, inspections were conducted at a facility and a warehouse. Orders were issued due to identified cross-contamination of production flows and issues with cheese storage conditions. A butter sample was also taken.
On June 20, the BFSA announced changes to the enhanced monitoring regime for incoming shipments of milk and dairy raw materials from European Union Member States and third countries. The main change is that from now on, inspections and sampling will be carried out at destination facilities rather than at border checkpoints.
