Balgarianovinite.com Eighty-six per cent of the money needed for urgent renovation of the only Bulgarian Orthodox church in the Netherlands, the Church of St. St. Archangels Michael and Gabriel in The Hague, has already been raised. The online fundraising campaign was launched at the beginning of June.
“The campaign is progressing well. The planned renovation will begin on September 1, and, with God’s help, we believe we will raise the remaining amount by then,” Father Nikolay, who heads the church community, told BTA. He said people are donating according to their means. Some have also offered assistance free of charge. One company has undertaken to replace the church’s entire floor, which Father Nikolay described as one of the largest items in the renovation budget.
The campaign has so far received 78 donations. Contributions have come not only from people in the Netherlands but also from Germany and Belgium. The campaign has been organized with the blessing of the Bulgarian Orthodox Church’s Metropolitan Antony of Western and Central Europe.

The Bulgarian Orthodox community in The Hague has worshipped in the building since the church community was founded on June 18, 2000, Pentecost. An Orthodox church has stood on the site of the Church of St. St. Archangels Michael and Gabriel since 1954 and used to be associated with St. John of Shanghai and San Francisco. After many years of effort and uncertainty, the building was acquired for the Bulgarian Orthodox community in 2018, representatives of the church said.
