Balgarianovinite.com A total of 25 people have been arrested so far in a police operation in Varna’s Primorski borough, Interior Minister Ivan Demerdzhiev told reporters near Veliko Tarnovo on Friday.
Five of those arrested are municipal employees, with the identities of those arrested to be confirmed once formal charges are filed, as investigators are continuing their work to identify higher-ranking officials involved in the corruption network. Demerdzhiev said some of those detained will face criminal charges and added that authorities are investigating not only the creation of the illegal KYB settlement but also other unlawful practices within Varna Municipality.
Dozens of witnesses have been questioned, and investigators have gathered extensive evidence, Demerdzhiev pointed out, stressing that those responsible will be referred to the prosecution. The minister noted that the investigation covers the past two to four years, focusing on documents used in attempts to legalize what authorities consider clearly illegal construction. The evidence indicates that municipal employees and senior officials were involved in similar schemes unrelated to Oleg Nevzorov and KYB Corporation.
Nevzorov has been questioned in detail and provided extensive testimony, including information about the activities of Bulgaria’s State Agency for National Security, Demerdzhiev said. Asked about the origin of Nevzorov’s investment, Demerdzhiev commented that it is being examined in a separate, broader investigation tracing financial flows linked to KYB Corporation, including transactions outside Bulgaria.
