Balgarianovinite.com During a Monday meeting with reporters at the municipal headquarters, Burgas Mayor Dimitar Nikolov said that hosting Eurovision 2027 is not the finish line but the beginning of a huge amount of work that has already started. Bulgarian National Television (BNT) Director General Milena Milotinova also took part in the news conference.
“Hosting the contest is not the finish line; it is the beginning. The final will be on May 15, and on May 16 I want to have the opportunity, together with Ms Milotinova, to announce that Bulgaria has performed exceptionally well as a host,” Nikolov said. He added that the aim is for Bulgaria to set records as host and for all guests and participants to leave satisfied with the organisation and reception.
Preparations have already begun. The Mayor said that procedures to be carried out under the Public Procurement Act were launched as early as August 14. He assured that the process would be transparent and that the media would be kept fully informed about its various stages.
Work will be needed on transport and overall logistics, including flight connections, bus transport and shuttle services, as well as coordination with transport companies, tour operators, hotel and restaurant owners, and security services. “It is very important to us that all delegations and all teams arriving in Bulgaria genuinely feel at home,” Nikolov said.
He urged Eurovision to be a topic that unites Bulgaria and the hosting of the contest to be used to present the country and the region to the world, not only as a tourist destination but also as a place with rich cultural and folklore traditions.
Milotinova said BNT was preparing to welcome more than 1,000 journalists expected to arrive in Burgas. Together with the Mayor, she has inspected potential locations for the media, as well as the links between the press centre and the production show area. “This concentration of media in Burgas is a huge opportunity to show our country as it really is – beautiful, welcoming and a country of talent,” Milotinova said.
She also said that BNT, as the host broadcaster, would be the main organiser of the production show in close cooperation with the European Broadcasting Union (EBU). Milotinova stressed the enormous international and digital reach of the contest. She noted that Eurovision-related content alone has reached tens of millions of users on social media, while the contest’s broadcast reaches a multi-million international audience. “Tens of millions, or rather hundreds of millions of people, will be able to see what we create here through our joint efforts,” she said.
BNT and Burgas Municipality are to announce the necessary administrative procedures and public procurement procedures. The first key task is the design of the stage, around which the concept of the show will be developed. The allocation of seats for spectators will become clear after that. Milotinova noted that the procedures are not short, but preparations are currently proceeding on schedule. She added that BNT had been working on preparations since Bulgaria’s victory in Vienna on May 17.
Both Nikolov and Milotinova stressed that Eurovision should be felt not only in the venue where the semi-finals and final will take place, but throughout Burgas and the wider region. The Mayor expects the hosting to have a positive impact on business and tourism as well. He said he had already spoken with major and mid-sized hotel chains and representatives of different types of accommodation, stressing that unjustified price increases must be avoided, as they could harm the image of Burgas and Bulgaria. “Our reputation is extremely important,” Nikolov said.
He also recalled Burgas’ experience in organising major events, as well as the security infrastructure developed over the years. Milotinova, for her part, praised the way Burgas had responded to the news that it would host the contest. She cited the flash mob organised in the city and the reaction of local residents as examples.
“Eurovision should actually be felt throughout the city, not only at the venue where the semi-finals and final will be held. Not only throughout the city, but throughout the entire region,” Milotinova said. She noted that a number of European cities that are not capitals have already hosted the contest successfully, including Basel, Malmö, Liverpool, Rotterdam, and Turin.
“With the motivated team you have, the even more motivated and professional team at BNT, and the support of the EBU, I think we will create something impressive,” Milotinova said.
